Cheyenne Trophy Awards Honor Outstanding Military Achievements

Annually, the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce and the Military Affairs Committee (MAC) present award trophies to the nominated outstanding Air Force, Air National Guard, Army National Guard and Naval Reserve unit of the year.

The Military Affairs Committee Cheyenne Trophy is presented annually to men and women of the United States Armed Forces whose mission accomplishment, patriotism, off-duty volunteerism and community involvement have made a significant contribution resulting in a positive impact to the city of Cheyenne and its residents.

The 2020 Military Affairs Committee Chair, Ward Anderson, Chamber Board of Directors Vice President, Michele Bolkovatz, presented this year’s Cheyenne Trophy Awards.

USAF 90th Strategic Missile Wing - 790th Missile Security Forces Squadron. The 790th Missile Security Forces Squadron epitomizes the values of duty, honor, courage, loyalty, commitment, integrity, and selfless dedication to the United States’ nuclear deterrence mission. The unit performed as the 90th Missile Wing’s top security flight, capturing three superior teams and identifying 18 superior performers, during the bi-annual Nuclear Surety Inspection. These accomplishments directly contributed to the unit being named the 90th Missile Wing’s Outstanding Large Security Forces Unit. Additionally, members of the unit excelled individually at all levels earning multiple accolades. Major Jonathan Plyler and Senior Master Sergeant Cody Stollings accepted the award on behalf of their Commander, Col Joseph Zrodlowski.

Wyoming Air National Guard - 153rd Force Support Squadron.

Through a targeted team effort, the 153d Force Support Squadron put to action its vision to be a continuously improving unit. The squadron reviewed more than 300 regulations to identify 64 improvement areas. Their efforts led to zero findings in the Wing’s 2019 Unit Effectiveness Inspection (UEI), and four members were recognized at outstanding performers. Further, the Recruiting Team accessed 173 new members to the Wing. Additionally, members were active in youth sports, at their churches, and with several Cheyenne schools – committing more than 500 individual hours to community service. Capt Jacque Stonum and Chief Denise Hondel accepted the award. Lt Col Sparks joined the ceremony virtually.

Wyoming Army National Guard - A/2-300 Field Artillery Battalion. 2019 was a banner year for A/2-300 Field Artillery Battalion (FA BN) where months and years of training led to a successful deployment of the unit in support of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) to create enduring security in Iraq and Northeast Syria to enable stabilization activities and humanitarian assistance. The unit has responded heroically, often under fire, by launching multiple precision, long range missiles that directly resulted in diminished asymmetric activity in the region in direct support of Unified Land Operations (ULOs). The actions of A/2-300 aided coalition and partner forces in the liberation of nearly 42,471 square miles from terrorist organizations and elimination of the self-proclaimed territorial caliphate, thus freeing 7.7 million people from terrorist oppression. Capt Timothy Tierney and First Sergeant Joshua Phillips accepted the award.
