Cool, Clear Water
Thoughts from Dale Steenbergen -
As a community we have made some questionable decisions regarding water over the years. I am not sure that they were bad decisions at the time, but they were, at the least, lacking in forethought to what might happen down the road.
Water is the new oil, and as a community on the semiarid steppe it needs to be at the forefront of our decision making. We are not yet desperate, and we don’t need to panic. However, it is imperative that BOPU, City of Cheyenne, Cheyenne LEADS, and your Chamber of Commerce all start taking this concern more seriously and be mindful that our actions will impact future generations. None of us want to be the character of Marty Robbin’s famous song Cool Water. Let’s get on it, Cheyenne. Keep in mind that a quick economic win might mean that our kids and grandkids face the barren waste without a drop of cool, clear water.
The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1907 and is more than 1,000 members strong. Using guiding core competencies, the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce demonstrates leadership by advocating for business at all levels of government and promoting our community to make the region a better place to live, work, and do business. The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce is also active in the Wyoming Business & Industry Federation, Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
