Real Men Don’t Drink Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Nothin’ like having a standard cup of joe.

First things first! Boeing making a strategic announcement not to pursue the GBSD contract does not cancel the program. Additionally, the cancellation of the missile defense project highlighted on the front page of the paper on August 22nd has absolutely nothing to do with GBSD. Steps toward the upgrade re still in motion and we are still heavily engaged!

Back to Pumpkin Spice Lattes! While we live in a world of “fluffy” coffee, our strategic defense strategy needs to remain strong and bold, more like black coffee. We have an ongoing joke in the office about who drinks Pumpkin Spice Lattes. My argument is that “real men don’t” drink Pumpkin Spice Lattes and I am told I need to embrace a more modern gentile version of the world. Regardless of the development of my cultural acumen, I do believe it is safe to say that our country and how we view defense of democracy has a pretty narrow view of reality. Because large scale war has not been common for many folks alive today, some claim we have evolved beyond such barbaric solutions. Those of you that are history buffs are reminded of the mindset of the early 20th century and then the adapted version called WWI, the war to end all wars. My point is this, the world is still a violent and dangerous place and we need the ability to ensure our defense. The answer is obtaining and maintaining a strong deterrent and thus the answer is GBSD. Some of you will view my opinion like it was typed by the fingers of a caveman who barely knows how to start a fire but regardless of your political leanings, it is incumbent on us to ensure we are vigilant regarding the challenging geopolitical world we live in.

Footnote: Need some talking points about GBSD? Here you are!

  1. GBSD (Ground Based Strategic Deterrent) is the new missile system that the Air Force is going to put at FE Warren and the other 2 missile bases.

  2. GBSD is on track to be the largest economic development project in Wyoming’s history.

  3. GBSD is needed because our strategic competitors (Russia, China, North Korea, etc.) continue to test newer and more effective nuclear weapons and are doing so at an accelerating rate.

  4. GBSD insures Americas strength to the next 50 years. The military is one of the largest employers in the State of Wyoming and it needs to be defended.
