Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra Presents America The Beautiful

The Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra proudly presents America The Beautiful on February 7, 2026, at 7:30 PM at the Cheyenne Civic Center. Sponsored by Cheyenne Skin Clinic, Riverstone Bank, and Lamar Advertising, this concert celebrates the spirit and of American music.

Join us for a captivating performance featuring the stunning works of renowned American composers. The evening will highlight Aaron Copland’s immortal Appalachian Spring Suite, drawn from the original 1944 ballet, which beautifully captures the essence of rural American life and the renewal of spring.

In addition to Copland’s masterpiece, the concert will feature his jazz-infused Clarinet Concerto, performed by the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra’s very own principal clarinet, Kellan Toohey. Written in 1948 for the legendary clarinetist Benny Goodman,

this concerto showcases lyrical melodies and vibrant harmonies that highlight the clarinet’s expressive range.

CSO Musical Director and Conductor William Intriligator shares, “Aaron Copland is one of my all-time favorite composers. Not only does his music have tremendous heart, but he also created the quintessential sound of American classical music. In

his music you can hear the landscape of our country, and you feel the spirit of America. As we perform, explore, and celebrate American composers all season long, Copland naturally deserves a big part. On this February Masterpiece concert, we will

have two of his greatest works: his Clarinet Concerto—performed by Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra Principal clarinetist Kellan Toohey—and his well-loved suite from the ballet Appalachian Spring. Appalachian Spring, which was one of the first pieces I ever conducted. It made me want to be a conductor. There’s so much heart and beauty in it!”

The concert also includes two beautiful pieces by living American composers: Jesse Montgomery’s Strum for string orchestra and Quinn Mason’s Princesa de la Luna for string orchestra and harp. The Maestro adds, “These two up and coming composers

are already making big names for themselves. And you will love their music.”

Jessie Montgomery received the 2025 Classical Woman of the Year award. Strum is a unique composition that blends jazz and blues with classical elements. Montgomery’s innovative approach showcases her ability to merge different musical styles, resulting in a work that is rich in texture and energy. The composition reflects contemporary influences while honoring traditional forms, making it a unique addition to the concert repertoire.

Princesa de la Luna by Quinn Mason, a piece filled with rich melodies that explore themes of love and longing, creating a dreamy atmosphere through skilled orchestration. In this piece, Mason evokes a glorious night sky complete with moonlight and stars!

America The Beautiful combines classic music with the beauty of our nation, appealing to audiences of all ages. This performance is sure to inspire and uplift, making it a delightful experience for both classical enthusiasts and newcomers alike!
