Calling All Middle School Students: Only 15 Days Left to Apply for the 2026 National Civics Bee!

Middle school students across Wyoming are encouraged to take part in the 2026 National Civics Bee, a nonpartisan competition designed to inspire civic engagement, strengthen civic knowledge, and give young people a platform to share ideas for improving their communities. Applications close in just 15 days! The 2026 deadline to apply is February 3, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time.

The National Civics Bee® invites students in grades 6–8 to respond to an essay prompt proposing a solution to a real-world community issue, incorporating civic virtues and principles. This free competition helps students expand their understanding of American democracy, develop thoughtful solutions, and build confidence in public communication.

Students who compete have the opportunity to:

  • Advance from regional competitions to state finals and ultimately to the National Championship in Washington, D.C.

  • Win recognition and prizes at every level of competition, including trophies and cash awards.

  • Compete for the grand prize: a $100,000 contribution to a 529 education savings plan for the 2026 National Civics Bee Champion.

“We are proud to host the National Civics Bee again in Wyoming,” said Dale Steenbergen, President & CEO of the Wyoming Chamber of Commerce. “This competition encourages young leaders to explore civic issues, think critically, and understand how their voice can make a difference in their communities, state, and nation.”

Regional events will be hosted by chambers throughout Wyoming, including by the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, Casper Area Chamber of Commerce, Thermopolis Hot-Springs Chamber of Commerce, and Glenrock Chamber of Commerce, giving students local opportunities to compete and showcase their ideas.

How to Enter: Eligible students in grades 6–8 from public, private, charter, and homeschool environments may submit their online essay application at NationalCivicsBee.org by February 3, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time.
